Anne McColl just did a feature on her blog about me for her series called “The Power of a Creative Sabbatical.” I like thinking I’m on a sabbatical. I picture myself sipping an umbrella drink in Bermuda shorts.

You can read the full article here. Thanks Anne!!

Also, some important things:

1. My next post will be my 200th, so don’t expect greatness, but I’m hoping to work out something epic

2. I’M ENGAGED!

3. I have the best ring of all time, which may be what the 200th post is about (and then I’ll add in some animated gifs of confetti or something)

Guest Mix Tape: Cut Yer Jeans and Ripp off Yer Sleeves

I asked my friend and ultimate punk rocker Matt Bradley to make a mix tape for my blog. A week later, “Cut Off Yer Jeans and Ripp off Yer Sleeves, Springtime Mixxx” was created (with extra “p’s and x’s added to the title for effect). Matt insisted on making the image for the mix in Microsoft Paint after I suggested creating an image in Photoshop. Matt rode his bike around town in some cut off jean shorts to test drive the mix earlier this week. After listening to the mix, I agree that that is the ultimate way to inaugurate it. I only wish it wasn’t raining in the central coast today.

Download the mixxx here!!!

Matt also has some great art, some of which I am the proud owner of.

“We’ve Come for Your Children”

Kink’s Album Drawing

“The Underground is Overcrowded”

Okay folks, cut off yer jeans, roll out those bikes, juice up those boom-boxes, and hit the spring  asphalt with this rocking mix.

Run, Don’t Walk Zine

Just finished my zine for the Paper Cut’s show Saturday night.

Sadly, I had to ship them down because I won’t be able to make it to the epic zine swap of 2010. I only made 15 zines, and sent 10 down. If you are participating in the swap, I’d like a zine of yours if you are to take one. If they run out, and you would like one, send me an email at [letschat@lindsay-preston.com]. You can also purchase the zine in my shop.

To view the rest of my zine, head over to my site. Or, go to the zine swap at Subtext this Saturday night.

Dave Adey’s “John Henry” at Luis de Jesus

John and I made the 4 hour trek down our state’s coast to see Dave’s installation of John Henry at Luis de Jesus in Bergamont Station. I had seen pictures of the installation in San Diego, but this is one you really have to see to believe.

Using backyard bridge technology, Dave suspended two lengthy rows of books with nothing but sheer force holding em together.

The saw horses act as supports that touch to each wooden keystone set between the books.

Amazingly, the cockeyed horses are perfectly plumb to the ground.

Shims placed in between books from the top send reciprocal pressure down.

Well played Dave. Well Played.

Weekend Recipe: Zesty Grilled Bell Pepper and Shallot Pasta

posted by admin on 2010.04.10, under Uncategorized
10:

We’ll see how long this lasts, but I thought it would be great to start posting a recipe every weekend. Some made up, some from recipe books. I often post yummy things I’ve made, so why not save it for the weekend when we all have time to cook!

I just made up this recipe. It would be great hot or cold as a pasta salad. It’s so yummy!!! Sorry the measurements are kind of loose…just taste it and add things until it’s good.

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE SAUCE:

2 oranges, juiced

1 lemon, juiced

1/3 C olive oil

3 Tbs. Balsamic vinigar

1 Tbs. Rice Vinigar

1-2 Tbs Sage (fresh if you’ve got it)

1 Tbs Red pepper flakes

2-3 dollops of dijon mustard

2 Tbs. Sesame Seeds

Salt and pepper to taste

FOR THE PASTA:

penne pasta (however much you want!)

4 bell peppers

4 shallots

2 vegetarian sausages (or real ones if you’re a meat eater)

1/2 C feta cheese

WHAT TO DO:

1. Heat a grill on high. Meanwhile clean and chop the bell peppers in half. Peel the shallots (leave whole). Brush olive oil on the grill and place veggies and sausages on grill. Brush tops with olive oil. (about 5 minutes grill time for each side of veggies)

2. Boil water. When boiling, add penne pasta and turn down to medium. Cook about 10 minutes or until done (I like it al dente). Remove from water and place in a large bowl.

3. After flipping veggies and both sides have cooked for 5 minutes, remove from grill. Skins should be charred, and even black (don’t worry you take them off). Peel skin off of bell peppers (The more charred the skin is the easier it is to peel), and dice. Take outer charred layer off shallots (if you squeeze em, the insides will just pop out), and dice. Slice sausage into bitesize pieces.

4. Add chopped veggies to pasta. Add feta and 1/3 of sauce and mix with tongs or a spoon. Add the sauce slowly and to your discretion, tasting as you go. I only used about half of it. Depends on personal preference. Also, add salt, pepper and sage to taste. Now either refrigerate for a pasta salad, or eat it up right away!!

That’s it! Enjoy.

Wes is a great bud who happens to make awesome work. We took a drive down to Barrio Logan to hang out in this fort he installed in the Bakery (shared studios of Set and Drift and Mi-Workshop), and had a good ol’ conversation about the meaning of art, and life, and the cosmos.

He also makes amazing hand sewn quilts.

The Museum of Contemporary Art’s Education Department just commissioned me to do a series of flyers, applications and post cards for the Museum’s Teen Art Council. They mailed me a bunch if text that the teens had hand embroidered to use in the design. Here’s the finished flyer. Way to go teens! Can you teach me to weave?
